Here's an overview of the major events in the
Lake Tahoe area. Each calendar entry includes the phone number
to call for details and more information.
- January
-
Snowfest!
- SnowFest! a long-standing tradition throughout
the North Lake Tahoe community, features over 50 events
during the entire Winter season at North Lake Tahoe locations.
Events include a torchlight parade, laser show and fireworks
at Squaw Valley, community parades in Tahoe City and Kings
Beach, the famous Gar Woods Polar Bear Swim, snow sculpting,
wacky winter bowling, the Tahoe Localman competition and
the dog pull. The festival also has events for the young
and not-so-young, educational events and arts related
events. There is a Luau at Sunnyside Resort and a Mardi
Gras party at Jake's on the Lake, a fastest bar server
race at Pete 'n Peters and a Ribfest at the Bridgetender.

Sierra Stomp
- Bring your snowshoes
and follow your guide as you hike through the woods seeking
a breathtaking summit view. Usually at the end of January.

Far West Open Slalom
- Visit Heavenly, during the first week in
January, and watch skiers compete in the World Cup run,
one of the series leading to participation in the Olympics.

Kings Beach Snow Festival Parade
- Downtown Kings Beach on Highway 28 in North
Lake Tahoe comes alive with an hour-long parade around
noon during the 10-day Tahoe Snow Festival, also featuring
events in various communities from the Rotary Ski Challenge

- Reno opens its downtown area to food and
craft booths, and a variety of Mexican-themed events and

Annual Highway 50 Wagon Train
- Historical Reenactment of the Great Western
Migration. Take a step back through time. Relive the adventures
and rigors of the early pioneers as they traveled west.
The Highway 50 Association is a non-profit organization
dedicated to horse and wagon enthusiasts, and the historical

Free Fishing Day at Sawmill Pond
- At Sawmill Pond in South Lake Tahoe. Today,
kids 14 years and younger fish free. Prizes and goodies

- In mid-May, the Edgewood Golf Clubhouse

- Truckee River Whitewater Park in downtown
Reno is the site for Reno River Festival, with a growing
roster of events, exhibitors, activities and competitions,

- Towards the end of May, Harrahs Convention
Center in Stateline hosts an annual exposition of exhibits

- In South Lake Tahoe, the Valhalla Renaissance
Faire takes fairgoers to the countryside of late-1500s
England, with peasants, merchants, barbarians, soldiers,

Plumas-Sierra County Fair
- A real old fashioned county fair just north
of Tahoe Truckee area! Drive up for a real treat during
your Lake Tahoe visit. You will love it! In addition to
all the livestock, arts, crafts and good old time traditional
REAL county fair competitions and participants, the entertainment
includes Slim and Minnie, Spike the Juggler, Sourdough
Slim, Dr. Solar, several bands and more. Families love

- Marvel at the Fall colors along Taylor Creek,

Salmon. Complete family fun with guided tours of Taylor

Annual Eldorado Great Italian Festival
- Head on over to Reno for live entertainment
on three stages, a spaghetti sauce cook-off, a un grape
stomping contest, bocce ball tournament, kids' gelato

Far West Nordic Auction & Raffle Fundraiser
- Held annually in November, the Auction and
Raffle prizes are some of the best anywhere, with ski
equipment and outdoor gear, plus great prizes from XC
Ski Areas, bike shops, local restaurants, and lots of
gear and goodies. Featuring Salomon, Swix and Fischer.
This is Far West Nordics largest fundraiser for its Junior
Nordic programs. Usually this annual event is held in
